Gizmo Humor Gone Bad

1/17/23

These photos were taken on 1/12/23 at 11:27 AM.

The location was at my home in Beltsville, MD.

The "Take It!" came after a series of circumstances which all turned out well - but had some twists and turns.

I have stored some items outside - using standard 5 gallon plastic buckets purchased at either Home Depot or Lowe's. Plastic after having been exposed to outside sunlight and weathering - in the course of time - can stiffen up and be difficult for lid removals to be done. I having not been using my fingers for push/pull work in some time - thus - did not have what it took to remove the lids. I recalled having seen this lid puller assist (Gizmo) some time ago - and went to Home Depot to hopefully get one. Not knowing where to look I asked a service assistant for the location for the item. The store was not busy - so I was escorted to the isle and to the item. It was late in the day and the assistant took the item off the store display rack and was about to hand it to me - when I observed that the item had a circular feature with an indentation to it on the top of the tool. Thinking I might generate a laugh based on ridiculous humor - I asked if the feature was a cup holder. He immediately turned with the tool still in his hand and started to walk toward a sample of a product which had a small lid for which the circular section of the tool could grab - and be of assisting in opening. I stopped him and explained my strange humor - and he laughed - apologizing for not getting the joke. I apologized back to him for trying to promote a laugh - so late in his day.

We parted and I proceeded to pay for the item and take it home. I put it to use right away - and am glad to now have it for the future.

Before putting it to task - I read the item tag upon which the tool was fastened for display. In the written advertisement on this tag - it had five different uses for the tool. For some reason "cup holder was not among them" - lol.

Here is hoping this pass along may have someone who is looking for such a tool - now have an answer.

All my very best,

Bruce

PS: I hope the polite service assistant who helped me is able to get some mileage out of his encounter with me. Something about a crazy guy - and a cup holder - lol

I have a similar tool that clicks into that center circle of the lid. It clamps on and locks. I got it because I had a bucket that had become vacuum sealed somehow. I actually broke the tool trying to remove the lid, never got it off.

I bet there are plenty of us out there that think every tool should have a cup holder installed on it lol.

Thank you all for your interesting and varied comments. I never know what sort of reactions are going to be found from each photo. Waiting to hear from everyone is part of the fun of each of my weeks time.
There is one feature I did not notice on the outside photo - that being - the shadow portrait of myself shown in the grass. It was a fun extra catch.
    Wishing everyone my best. Bruce
