Street Tadpole

4/12/21

This photo was taken on March 14, 2021 at 12:26 PM.

The location was in the street in Rockville, Maryland.

The "Take It!" came from my taking a second glance at the intersecting overlay of two small green leaves in the street. It was the morning after a rain which had knocked these two leaves off their former host trees. The rain had stopped long enough to have permitted most of the concrete surrounding the leaves to have dried. However there is some moisture still being held in the leaves and enough to leave a small perimeter of wetness as a surround for the image.

I took a moment to google 'tadpole' before writing this up and found much to my happy surprise - there is a stage in the development of a frog - which matches this image relatively well. The green color in the leaves makes the comparison possible.

Here is hoping you have enjoyed this very simple "catch."

Wishing everyone my very best,

Bruce

I can see it, although the leaf looks brown to me. That growth on the tail is called the operculum. It happens in one of the stages shortly before growing legs and becoming a frog.

It looks like she's got a bubble around her.

My daughter had no clue what a tadpole was, so I showed her one and now she wants one. I explained they grow into frogs, which she says is "gross" and asked if we can just make it stay a tadpole.

I'm glad you don't post pictures of animals too often. My kid is in this phase where she has to have any animal she sees.

I'm usually not to great at the pics that require imagination, but I can totally see this one!

Did you gently put it back in water? LOL
