Cherry Blossoms Over a New Light

3/28/22

This photograph was taken on Wednesday March 16, 2022 at 11:58 AM.

The location was in the Georgetown section of Washington DC.

The "Take It!" came from having looked for a number of days for cherry blossoms which might have bloomed early enough for our Spring Banner. Most were still in tight form and had not opened up as of yet.

As chance would have it - I found a small cafe with outside table seating on the side walk which had a small tree which had started to have its blossoms break open. My vantage point was very limited but was able to include some clear blue sky which was very welcomed.

The cafe had installed lights as attachments to the branches of the tree and made covers for each light bulb using emptied and cleaned clear jam jars which were very cleverly done.

I took over ten photographs as had difficulty deciding which picture could represent this ever so important time of year.

Here is hoping where ever you are - that Spring is soon to be delivering the floral splendor for which it is so well known.

Sending each of you our very best,

Bruce

I have been to the Cherry Blossom festival in the DC area and it is just so beautiful. I am not sure if they are doing it through the pandemic, but I would highly recommend going at some point in their life. It is just wonderful!

Usually I explain something about these photos to my daughter, but today she actually taught us something. Apparently Cherry Blossom trees were a gift from the Japanese in 1912. I guess she recently learned about it in school.

Thank you to everyone for your comments: I never seace to be amazed at how excited everyone gets when the cherry blossoms come out. Even the most seemingly gruff, soften up when speaking of them. I must say it is part of the pleasure of living in this area.
As MHampy mentioned - if you have a chance to visit during this time of year - please do as it is a memory for a lifetime.
    All my very best
