Lamps Waiting for the Night Shift

12/12/21

These photographs were taken on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at 5:16 PM.

The location was near the entrance to a moderately priced hotel in the City Center District in Washington DC.

The "Take It!" came after getting out of my car, as this hotel is one that I visit on a regular basis and happened to look forward and up and found the mix of the clouds, the tree foliage and the unlit lamps to make up an interesting composition.  I sometimes will take several photographs of the same subject not knowing if a horizontal or vertical picture will serve the photograph in the best way.  On other occasions I will snap several shots in succession just to make certain I have possibly captured the subject - again - in the best way.   This happened to be just one of those times with no interruption between shots - however there was a very small movement in my positioning of the camera for the second shot.

As chance would have it - the first photo turned out to be the better one as the spire on the lamp on the left was more clearly defined and highlight by the cloud in the background.

I showed the two photos to several people with whom I share my work - and pointed out the difference.  They were as surprised as I was in how this small shift made such a difference.

Amazing how the little stuff can show up - big.

All my best to everyone,

Bruce

I wonder how old those lamps are, they almost look Victorian.

Anyone see the dinosaur head in the clouds? You've trained me to look for the shapes in things lol.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. The lights are a possible reproduction of a older lamp and are lit with regular light bulbs. The clouds were what first caught my eye on this shot and the lights made a great overlay. Gabe takes the prize for seeing a dinosaur head in the clouds. All my best to everyone Bruce
