Woven Wood

12/14/12 -101-

This photo was taken in early November 2012 at about 12:30pm.

The shot was taken in a very upscale hotel in Alexandria, Virginia

The "Take It!"  came after having observed this bit of artistry for many months. The care and craftsmanship of the maker is something that could get overlooked due to the massive size of the piece and how well it fits in with the overall decor of the property.

There is usually a warmth found in exposed wood used in furniture as well as other crafts.  This example accomplishes this intimacy in grand style as the furniture arrangement in front and underneath it (note how it extends up onto the ceiling as well as covers the wall) find people using them and appear to be both relaxed as well as able to converse even though it is on the side of a busy corridor.

To those whom I have shown these photos, all joined me in thinking the arrangement was very cool.

Here is hoping you have some object in your home that is made of wood and the finish exposes the grain.  For me it offers a sort of harmony with nature even though it may only be in a small way.

Thanks for joining us for the current photo presentation. You are cordially invited to return Tuesday, December 18th for a new picture that we hope you will enjoy.

Sending you my best,

Bruce

PS:  I think I will give a go at making up some wooden pannels for my living room.  I do not think nor will I try to match the high level of craftmanship as shown in these photos, but will create a conversation piece none the less.

I think they call that modern woodland. The break room at the school I teach at has a very similar design.

I agree Bruce. Whoever did this really took their time and did an excellent job.

@Teri; I pulled my wife over who is an interior designer and she confirmed what you said. It is in fact called Modern Woodland. Great look for sure!

You could almost set up the most epic game of checkers on that thing.

    Hey Teri and Jeff,

Thank you for taking the time to confirm the formal name for this artistic style. It is always great to have a name for anything that is in question.
