Jersey Wall Surprise

12/26/21

This photograph was taken on December 8, 2021 at 3:43 PM.

The location was in the City Center District in Washington D.C.

The "Take It!" came as I walked from my car to gain access to one of the properties on my route.  The street had been blocked off to enable a Holiday Gift Festival to take place which has been in existence for a number of years.

The crowd was big, as this was on a day when the weather was unseasonably warm and everyone seemed to be very happy to be there.

On my way I happened to see these two painted sections of Jersey Wall which were delightfully painted in colorful designs.  They were the only two sections that had this art work upon them and really stood out next to the unpainted concrete sections on either side of them.  I was lucky enough to catch a brief gap in the foot traffic in front of them to catch this shot.

In looking at these two sections of wall - it almost looked like they had been a part of a former installation.  This for me led to a wondering of where that might have been, and if they had been a part of a more extensive application of similar artistry.

It is amazing how much the inclusion of art, can influence one's frame of mind.  This display seemed to bring a hint of some tropical warmth to a winter day.

We here at Whutzzat hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Holiday!

Bruce

Reminds me of a style of Native American artwork I used to have many years ago. I can't remember which tribe, but it was stunning work.

That is really cool artwork. Really wish I could know more about it, its back story, like how it came to be.

Thank you for your comments: GpaJake - cool that you had some similar art work - would enjoy seeing more of it. Jim - Yes - I checked my paper back Webster's and it qualifies. Sally - Taylor had a great time with his family - I had a quiet one as the adult son with whom I was going to celebrate with, came down with a mild rendition of the covid - and was under quaranteen - he is almost recovered now - thankfully. Thank you for your good wish - and hope you and yours had a good time SF1967 - You and I share the same wish. Gabe - I have no way of knowing - as the entire Jersey Wall was removed with the rest of the set up of the Christmas Gift Fair on December 24th. I went there several days later and it looked like it had never happened - as is the way with street events. Wishing everyone my best. Bruce
