Rock Bottom

This photo was taken on February 23, 2012 in Potomac Maryland at about 5:45am

The location was at a campus like setting for a conference center where there are lots of  grounds and trees.

The "Take It " came from my constantly  being watchful of where I take my  next step,  Especially in the dawn time frame where the light is not the best. I was taking photos of trees that were leafless matched up with a cloud filled sky at dawn. I had just completed shots of one tree and was walking over some grass filled area when I came to a shallow gully which had been partially lined with rocks to help prevent erosion. The street lights gave some illumination to the rock lining and there low and behold was the stone in the center of this portion of the lining that had enough of a heart shape to call it one. It had a bit of a blue shade to it (my camera seems to opt and enhance everything it can to the color blue) which made it all the more striking. Yes, the cigarette butt calls for there to be even more story available however, lets just leave it that I have pledged to photograph everyting just as I find it, and this is that way.

The After Take: The photo has so much potential for labeling that I took it out for shopping and was not dissapointed. Most were just silent, just caught up like I was in that the photographic catch was made. All were quite taken with the story surrounding the catch as was I. It was a mix of those that said they wished the cigarette butt was not there, which was and is a shared sentiment. Almost all were happy to let me be the one who had to come up with a label for this subtle but powerful photo. I must say, it was one of the most thought provoking and sentiment touching pictures I have ever taken or shared.

Many thanks for taking your time to be with us for this photo. It goes with the hope it brings strong and good thoughts to and for you.
