The Christmas Tree Truck

12/28/13

The photos were taken on November 25, 2013 at 8:48 AM.

The location was on a cross street on the National Mall in Washington DC

The "Take It!" was an automatic pulling over of my car immediately upon seeing this great tree on this great looking truck parked with a police escort.

What luck to have happened upon this arrival of the National Christmas tree for the second year in a row !  I do not recall the truck cab being painted up as well last year.  I must say whoever did the paint job - certainly captured to excitement attached to the driving of this tree for the delivery all the way from the West Coast.  I can only imagine how joyful a trip it must have been for the driver and crew rolling down the road and getting more happy waves than they may have been able to respond to.  Talk about being able to gather a crowd at any and every stop.  While taking these three hurried shots, I took a chance and waved at the driver.  I could not have asked for a more enthusiastic wave in response.

The After Take: Every time I showed these photos to anyone - they smiled for it was the sharing of a lucky catch before the tree was taken off the truck and the blitz of photos as it was put into place, then the ceremony held with the choral group singing for the full dedication.

It is this sort of thing that reminds me of how lucky we are to live in this great country.

May these sort of traditions live long into the future,

Bruce

Wow, what a tree. That would have been such a sight to see all set up.

I seem to remember reading an article years ago that said they get the tree from Maine or somewhere way outside the area, and truck it to the Capitol. It was an interesting read for sure.

Hahaha, I read your article on your photos after just commenting and saw you addressed the very thing I was saying but wow, I didn't realize they came from the west coast that is amazing.

Great site!!! Lot of good reads here. My little boy loves "Big Twucks" and he got a kick out of this picture and the big "Twee." Good to find a site we can both enjoy together, although he can't quite read the summaries you have written.

I am always a little saddened when I see a tree cut down, but at least this one truly went out in a blaze of glory.
