Night Light in Black and White

This photo was taken on Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 4:27 am

The location was in a parking lot immediately adjacent to a building entrance in Rockville, Maryland

The "Take It!" was based on a walk out of the building on my way to getting back into my car with a look back at the face of the structure.  As my eyes made their way accross to look at it they occasioned on the puddle and the reflection in it. The image was made that much more clear with it being dark with the night still being in place. It almost gave a look of being in black and white, especially with the asphalt being made almost an absolute black with the lack of daylight.

The After Take: I have taken in puddles as one of my favorite ways of casting, no matter what the subject. I am not often given this gift of a random body of water, and like to take advantage of them when ever they present themselves. Be it after a rain, snow melt, or something as mundane as a gardener watering with some unintentional spill over or overage in some form.  Heck, sometimes it is like having a city block become lake front property with the stoppage of storm drain happening and the nose of my camera sniffing out a new view.  In this picture the puddle presented itself and I took the time to circle about it to see what offered the best reflection shot. The wall wash light offered the contrast with the white of the light with its fade off to darkness on the wall. This wall darkness matched up in color to the water in the puddle but had a change in sheen and texture with the surrounding asphalt.  All who have looked at this photo as I shopped it liked it. With not much explanation, it is uncomplicated and earns a late "wow."  It is for most, a grow on picture, a sort of sink in thing. With the black and white of it, I played with some way of giving the title over to the inclusion of "Tuxedo Treatment"  but for this to fully work, I felt it needed to have a date. Even though I went searching that early morning in the same lot for another puddle, none presented themselves with a reflection that could have gotten it a date dressed in blazing color, to have a tuxedo ticket.

The quest continues.

Thanks for sharing this morning moment with me.

I have stumbled on some great reflections in my day. I was actually able to dodge a falling AC unit once, thanks to a puddle on the ground!
