The Winner of Our Discontent

2/8/13 -120-

This photo series was taken on January 14, 2013 starting at 10:01 am.

The location is The Capitol in Washington DC.

The "Take It!" came from driving by the Capitol as I do on a regular basis and seeing the full overcast of cloud cover over this distinguished building.  Some of the lower border of the cloud cover is darker gray (almost storm gray) while over the top of the statue on the top - it is very light gray. I thought of how symbolic this coloring is for this ever so important governing body for our country.

The After Take:  I showed the photos while they were still in the camera to a number of people.  All were quite taken aback as almost all of the photos we see of this building are with bright sun light or a different sort of brightness that comes with night shots with the illumination being by a set of the best lights available.  With either illumination the edifice just plain old sparkles.

With the gray above - it brought about memory of the title of a long ago written book whose title is ' The Winter of Our Discontent.'   The change in one word to Winner made it seem all the more fitting to what is going on inside this historic building.  All seemed to agree with me - that the folks that are running our government are having too much difficulty in making sound decisions.  The bickering no matter what party one is from, is awful to witness.  I know lawyers are trained to build pressure to bring about decisions or settlements - and most who are working under the dome are lawyers - we the people do not like this part of how they do our business.  I would like to see more decisions made further in advance, so that labels like "Over The Cliff" and "Govt. Shutdown" no longer exist. With such advance, we can go about our lives without feeling like there is a big disaster over our heads.

Ah, what dreams I sometimes have.   Here is hoping you can have them too.  We just need to do everything we can to keep this kind of stuff out of our personal life wherever possible.

All my very best,

Bruce

Stunning picture, but what I love most is the clever name you have given it. Great book from a great author. These images do their title justice.

You get to see that everyday? That'd be pretty cool. Ever see congress going in or out?

Its no wonder the light is on which indicates they are in session, it looks like its going to rain. They all stayed home.

My cousin sent me to this site this morning. I am a huge fan of photography, and this is the first page I have seen. I am going to have to go through all of them now. Good read!

Teri: Thank you for the very nice complement.
Jenna: You are very right - it was not quite set up for the big day yet.
Jake: Your question has me ready to go and see a session as never have done it.
Sara: Good eye, in seeing the light on.
Track Master: Welcome and thanks to your relative for the referral. Hope you enjoy the variety of photos.
