This photo was taken in mid July 2011 at about 11 am.
The location was from an open field near Dulles Airport in Virginia.
The "Take It!" came from being almost overwhelmed with the clarity of the blue sky against the whiteness of the clouds in the sky on this particular day. There was virtually no haze or smog to interfere with having this contrast be a key part of the picture. This was one of those heeding to an almost audible command in my head to "Stop the car and get out and take as long as it takes to capture as much as you can." I rarely ignore this call when it comes. This circumstance had me not only stop the car but find an open field to be able to avoid possible interference from surrounding buildings while focusing in on the sky. It was almost like taking a cloud bath. This particular shot when further reviewing it after later having made prints of the series caught my eye for its simplicity. Its form lends its self to the illusion of a from right to left movement which seems to be further emphasized by the combination of the not so slight change in the depth of the blue background of sky which is controlled by the position of the sun which has a hint of exposure at the top of the shot.
The After Take: This turned into my dedicating almost an hour of immersing myself in the many cloud formations that presented themselves for review. It was not an exclusive show for me alone, but it at times seemed that way. I walked in the field to its far corners to catch what I thought were the right vantage points. It was one of the most exciting yet relaxing times of my life. I returned to my car having captured as many shots as I had time for. I drove away wishing I could have spent even more time in that what turned out to truly be a field of vision.
Here is hoping you are given a similar opportunity to immerse yourself in the observation of what nature provides us.
