I Swore This Would Not Drive Me Nuts!

The location being in the kitchen of my home in Beltsville, Maryland.

The "Take It!" came after having spent the better part of two summers in this new location with a house that is old enough to have been constructed using real 2 X 4 's  (not the shaved off modern measurements).  One of the Items I have found new respect for is the set of cieling fans located in 3 of the four major rooms. There was a fourth - which was located in the living room - which I had taken down as thought it looked like a giant tarantula. On two of the remaining fans there are two pull chains attached to the fixture ( one to turn the light on and off - the other to adjust the speed setting for the fan )  I somehow could not bring myself to memorize which length of chain controlled which function and spent more time than I wanted to, in pulling the wrong chain.

One day it hit me - that the solution was to put an identifier on each chain which controlled the fan speed  - to eliminate the confusion. The choice was an easy one - as had in my collection of stuff on my workbench - a jar of mixed bolts and nuts. Two of the nuts in the jar were shiny silver - and thus once installed on the fan speed chain - became the easy answer.

So, the easy answer - is that is something else that is going to drive me (you know where - lol).

Here is hoping you too have found an easy answer to something that has bedeviled you.

All my best,

Bruce

I am venturing out of the house a bit more - now that it has been better defined that face masks and distancing can be of enourmous help in keeping one safe. Here is hoping everyone is taking good care of themselves.

I did something very similar. The fan is white, so I painted the tip of the pull chain white, for "light." I haven't pulled the wrong one since.

My husband came in after I looked at this one and said he is going to do the same thing.

I like learning about new life hacks, and this is 100% one of those.

I pull the wrong string nine times out of ten. I can never remember which is which and I've had the same fan in my home for 20 years.
