Civic Duty

6/27/22

These photos were taken on May 21, 2021 at 11:04 AM.

The location was in the Georgetown District of Washington DC.

The "Take It!" Came after having looked at this graffiti for a few days. And having it strike me as being particularly offensive in that it was in full view of multitudes of not only the residents of the area but also our visitors both of whom we owe the best we can show - of our nation's capital.

I determined to take action and bought a can of spray paint using a color match to the best of my memory and on the next day tried my hand at the " cover up ". As one can easily see - I showed my armature self in the endeavor - with uneven strokes and runs of paint from not staying moving in the paint strokes. I took as short amount of time as I could , as was nervous about the doing. That I took time to interrupt the process to take photos did not help the steadiness of my hand - lol.

Amazingly enough - not one person stopped to ask me what I was up to - for which I was relieved.

Job done to the best of my shaky ability - I put the not yet empty can into my car and proceeded into the rest of my day.

While I wonder if what I did could be defined as illegal - I must say - I felt great in having the hope when I next pass this by - I will have some happy remembrance of engaging in the "deed."

Wishing everyone my very best.

Bruce

PS: I would like to ask that all who view this, to join me as co conspirators. By your having read this - you have already made my day - thank you.

PSS: I have got the next site in mind, and will buy a can of white spray paint to be ready for when the time is right. (More to come)

I have seen some graffiti I really appreciate, it can be beautiful art. This is not one of those occasions.

I'd be willing to bet most people just thought you were a city employee doing his job, since the color is a somewhat close match.

The really cool thing is you now have a secret no one else will know about, unless they happen to read this. People will walk by everyday and have no clue who did this. You will walk by and smile.

Should we look for shapes in the cover up now? I think I might see one.
