Indoor Plant avoids Trimming by Ceiling Fan

7/25/22

These photos were taken in late June 2022.

The location was in my house in Beltsville, Maryland.

The "Take It!" came as the weather got warm enough in the spring to need the air circulation assist from the ceiling fans in several of the rooms in my small house. I had purchase corn plants to place above shelving units to give some living contrast to the rooms in which the units were located. As time and some regular care would have it - the plants grew and pushed against the ceiling. This had the leaves reach into the path of the blades on the ceiling fan in the kitchen.

I contemplated changing out the plants for new ones with a different growth pattern - but realized I liked the general appearance of the corn plants (plus they are hearty). I made a visit to the nursery where I purchased them and found I could easily trim the stalks of the plants and do them no harm. The trimming was done - and while the plants may have been unhappy in being trimmed - they have adjusted - and are comfortable being once again the object of admiration - rather than the source of being a problem in need of a solution - lol.

Wishing everyone who wants one - a green thumb - for this season when everything likes to grow.

Best regards,

Bruce

PS: The photos attached are before and some after from the kitchen and the living room.

LOL! I think you may have discovered a dual-purpose hedge trimmer.

I think I'd have bits of leaves all over my living room.

You clearly have the gift of green thumb. For an indoor plant that thing is HUGE!!

My wife and I must have black thumbs, or maybe fire orange ha ha. All these years together and we can't keep any alive indoors. My daughter and her family move in with us and she turns our house into a lush paradise for plants. What's the secret? She doesn't seem to know.
